Norm photo Spring 2013Norm joined HeartKids Vic/Tas as CEO in August 2013. He has a record in the NFP sector that spans over 25 years.

Having made the decision to join St John Ambulance in 1986 he spent the best part of the next ten years helping them develop, professionalise and market their  first aid training and supplies both for the general public and also for Victorian Workplaces. Norm participated in the steering committees that formulate the first formal Code of Practice – First Aid in the Workplace and actively helped promote both Employer and Union buy in to make Victorian workplaces safer.

In doing his Masters of Business Administration Norm temporarily left the NFP sector before finding his way to The Brotherhood of St Laurence responsible for their donated goods division which included their network of Opportunity Shops.  He developed the concept for a specialist vintage clothing store ‘Hunter Gather, which continues to thrive today.

Norm found the next part of his NFP journey as CEO of Variety the Children’s Charity, a position he held for 11 years.

During that period Norm oversaw many developments to Variety including the creation and expansion of their Variety at Work Program, the positioning of Variety as the “champion” of the Liberty Wheelchair Swing which is now positioned in public parks and special development schools throughout Australia, New Zealand, North America, UK and Ireland.

Norm created a major project for Australia’s “Entertainers of the Century” which is celebrated at Docklands to recognise both their contributions to our history and Variety’s relationship with the entertainment industry.

He sees one of his great’s contributions in helping to start of the annual Variety 3AW Radiothon raising funds to buy bikes for disadvantaged children in time for Christmas.  The annual event ran for 10 years and gave away over 10,000 bikes.

On a more personal note Norm is married to Jodi, and has three daughters, a son and three grand children.

A passionate Richmond supporter Norm swims most days and enjoys his weekly social game of golf with his friends which has now been a ritual for almost 20 years.
